The Rural Media Network is an association of journalists in country areas who aim to promote the media and the practice of
journalism throughout Pakistan.
The stated aims of the Rural Media Network are:
1. to establish a network of journalists to monitor and defend freedom of expression in rural Pakistan
2. to build the professional capacity of rural journalists, and other sections of civil society, to better equip them in political
mediation
3. to provide a forum for debate and provide support for rural newspapers
The RMNP publishes Sadiq News, a newsletter covering freedom of expression issues for rural journalists in Pakistan, with
technical assistance from UNESCO and the Nawa-i-Ahmedpur Sharqia newspaper.
The Urdu-language newsletter includes information on press freedom violations, ethics, training, and other matters of interest
to rural journalists.
Sadiq News collects information from the Rural Media Network, the National Press Union, and local reporters on press freedom
violations in remote areas. The newsletter is a tool to help rural journalists learn about their rights and network with colleagues.
